Food and furniture up for grabs at Cowboy Bowl

BARNESVILLE - Most people who go out to eat likely only plan on buying food at the restaurant of their choice. Maybe they like the decor, but don’t think much of it.
But for those who go to Cowboy Bowl and decide they really like the decor, this place is selling a whole lot more than just food.
Unlike most restaurants, Cowboy Bowl, located at 112 E Church St. and newly opened Wednesday, has all their furniture up for sale. Customers can sit at their table to enjoy their food and then buy the table they just ate on.
Co-owner and operator Charley Lucas said the restaurant had its soft opening three weeks ago, with Wednesday being its grand opening.
"We have seen so many happy customers, so many people that love the food and love the decor," Charley Lucas said. "It’s just been really great and a blessing. We never could have imagined that it could really start out so well."
She added the restaurant allowed her to fuse her two passions: design and food.
“I love functional design, and people have gravitated towards the bowls and artwork for their home, it's been really cool," Lucas said. "Somebody bought a ceramic cowboy boot yesterday, and I was super excited. It was my mom’s, and she passed it down to me. I’ve had it for a long time. He was buying it for his wife, and that was pretty cool."
She added the shopping allows customers something to do while waiting on their food.
Charley Lucas said all of the furniture is either antique furniture she's thrifted, found or had donated to her.
The country western theme has been popular with customers, Charley Lucas said.
"People in Barnesville tend to like the western theme because a lot of people have livestock and are working people," Charley Lucas said.
The fast casual restaurant serves home cooked bowls.
Charley Lucas and her husband, D.J. Lucas, own and run their own ranch where they grow and source produce for the restaurant.
The desserts sold at the restaurant are from Seevers Sunshine Valley Farmstand, a local farmstand in Barnesville.
Lucas said working with the local farm stand gives it the opportunity to not only sell more baked goods as well as providing the customers with the stand's fan favorite items all year round.
"The vegetables are cut and shucked here. Our chef Stacy Johnston has done an amazing job with the preparation of the food, the order of the kitchen. She really cares a lot about the quality of the ingredients, and people have really loved them so far," Charley Lucas said. "Our four meats are the chicken meatballs, shredded chicken, ribs, and roast beef, and I’d say people tend to buy a little bit of everything. We haven’t really had one thing that really sticks out as a favorite yet."
She added the restaurant is a family business with her and her husband D.J. Lucas co-owning the space with D.J.’s father, Daryl Lucas, helping with the construction process of getting the building ready to open and chef Johnston being a longtime family friend.
Lucas said she is excited the restaurant is open and can't wait to see what the future holds.
Cowboy Bowl is open from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. It is closed on Mondays.
