SHADYSIDE - Inaugural Harvest in the Village is gearing up to be far from spooky.
The first ever event is slated to take place at the historic Shadyside Loop on Saturday.
It's organized by two villiage residents Natalie O'Donnell and Macy Coffland who are trying to make a positive impact in the community.
The event will take place in the northbound lane of the loop from 6-9 p.m. It will have a pumpkin patch, a kid zone, pumpkin painting, inflatables, games, face painting, cornhole tournament, live music, and food and craft vendors.
O'Donnell was on council member Melanie Haswell's America 250 committee that hosted the village's America 250 celebration.
"I was heavily involved in America 250 and it made me love the community of Shadyside even more and want to do better things for the community," O'Donnell said. "There was a lot of great feedback from that. So Macy Coffland came to me and said, that she really wanted to do a fall festival."
She added that she agreed that a fall festival would be fun.
O'Donnell and Coffland created the event with the intention of bringing something fun for residents of all ages in the community.
Following the pair agreed to the event details they contacted Mayor Mike Meintel who thought that the festival would be a great idea for the community.
Saturday's event will be the village's first event where the Designated Outdoor Refreshment Areas will be implemented.
DORA is a specified area of land that a local legislative authority such as city council or township trustees has designated as exempt from certain open container provisions as laid out in Ohio Revised Code Section 4301.82.
Council member Robert Dorris said that the reason for the festival only being in the northbound lane is because DORA cannot go into the southbound lane with any cups of alcohol.
"This is going to be our first test, and I’m hoping that the community honors the rules and we can get through this first event to pave the way for all the others," Dorris said. "We cannot enter the southbound lane with alcohol for Dora. That’s going to be very apparent once all the signs are up, it that’s why we’re just doing northbound so there’s no confusion and no one walks into a place that they don’t need to be."
He added that all of the normal rules and laws will still be implemented in the village such as open container and public intoxication will still be enforced.
O'Donnell said that the event had several sponsors that are all local businesses and organizations.
"It’s a fully sponsored event from our local businesses, so we want to shout out the fact that our businesses are willing to support our community and bring some fun to Shadyside for everyone, kids, parents, family, and friends," O'Donnell said.
