A Powhatan Point man died early Monday morning in a single-vehicle crash in Washington Township, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.
John Makris, 59, was traveling west on Ohio 148 in a 2006 GMC Sierra, OSHP said, when the vehicle traveled off the right side of the road and into a ditch at around 5:30 a.m. Monday. The Sierra continued across the centerline off the left side of the roadway, struck an embankment and caught fire.
Makris, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, died on the scene from his injuries. The OSHP is investigating the crash. It was assisted by the Beallsville Volunteer Fire Department, Hissom’s Towing, the Ohio Department of Transportation and the Belmont County Coroner’s Office.
