ST. CLAIRSVILLE - The city of St. Clairsville is getting into the holiday spirit.

St. Clairsville Area Chamber of Commerce executive director Lisa Kindler announced the city's annual Light Up Night event will take place on Nov. 21 from 4-8 p.m.

She also announced the city's annual Christmas parade will be on Dec. 6 at 3 p.m.

Kindler said the two events have consistently been the chamber's biggest two events of the year.

"We’re just so excited to be able to do this for our community. And it’s just one of the best feelings to see all the families gathering underneath our Christmas tree and coming out for these great holiday events," Kindler said.

Light Up Night's title sponsor is Whiteside Chevrolet and its presenting sponsor is WesBanco Bank.

The tree will be donated by city resident Ron Baker. Kindler said LaRoche Tree Service will be cutting down the Christmas tree and transporting it to main street where it will be displayed for the entire holiday season.

The Light Up Night will have an ice skating rink, live Highland cows to pet, inflatables, a trackless train and vendors lining the main streets.

"A lot of our businesses will be open, we'll have food trucks along with the restaurants that are on the main street," Kindler said.

She added the event will have live performers every 15 minutes, starting at 4 p.m. and going until 7 p.m.

Then, Santa Claus will arrive at 7 p.m. and will light the Christmas tree.

Performers include St. Clairsville Middle School's drama club; St. Clairsville Elementary School's music makers; Studio MC, Scarlet and Gray Conservatory of Dance; LDT Dance Center; the Wheeling Mineline; St. Clairsville High School band and cheerleaders.

Kindler said the St. Clairsville High School band and cheerleaders will be escorting Santa Claus to light the tree.

"We’ve been lighting the Christmas tree for many years but this is probably the fifth year that it’s been this big of an event," Kindler said. "We’re really excited about the opportunity to bring the community out to Main Street and have a great little evening where we change Main Street into a Hallmark movie."

She added the Christmas parade will travel the same route as always. It will start at St. Clairsville High School, traveling down Woodrow Avenue to the corner of Route 9 then make a right-hand turn, then another right turn onto Main Street and continue down Sugar Street.

The parade's main sponsor is WVU medicine.

Kindler said this year the parade will be streamed live on the chamber's Facebook account and its new Youtube channel.

"We’re encouraging people to like our Facebook page and to subscribe to our YouTube channel where you can see all of our videos from all of our events," Kindler said. "Then they'll be able to watch the parade live."

She added the parade continues to grow each year.

"Every year the parade just gets bigger and better. We have over 80 units in the parade already, and our deadline is next Friday," Kindler said. We’re really excited to have all the local businesses, nonprofits, and everybody who is participating in the parade. We just love to see the community come out and line the streets on our parade day."
