MARTINS FERRY — The opening date for the new Dollar Tree store in Martins Ferry has been pushed to Nov. 24.

The store originally was set to open Thursday, but apparently the location has some finishing touches that need to be made. Workers could be seen Thursday evening busily stocking shelves for the opening next week.

A sign on the door Thursday states the opening date is now set for next Tuesday.

Kayleigh Painter, Dollar Tree manager of Investor and Media Relations, previously said the store will employ between 12 and 20 people, based on its size. It will also offer 9,950 square feet of space.

Located at 500 S. Zane Highway, the store occupies the site of the former Bauer Ford car dealership lot. The dealership has not been there for years, but the site has remained empty, waiting for a redevelopment such as this.

City leaders were integral to making the development happen. The process began under former mayor Robert Krajnyak.

The city helped the developer determine whether old fuel tanks still were underground on the property. After much digging around by city workers with heavy machinery none were found, allowing the project to move forward.

The store is slated to be open seven days a week. It will sell a variety of items for $1 or less. The Martins Ferry location will include a “Snack Zone” featuring candy, snacks and beverages.

Applications for employment can be found at DollarTree.com/careers or in person at the store. Dollar Tree’s other local stores are in St. Clairsville, Bellaire, Wheeling and Moundsville.
