STRANGES, Helen L., 88, of St. Clairsville, Ohio, died Monday, April 27, 2009 at her home.

She was born May 20, 1920, in Cambridge, Ohio, a daughter of the late Pearle and Eva Foster Parrish.

Helen was a former quality control employee at Clevite Corp.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Clairsville, American Legion Post 159 and WAVES National.

She proudly served her country as a World War II Navy WAVE, assistant to the chief at the CBOQ- NAS, Sandpoint Naval Base, Seattle, Wash.

In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Philip N. Stranges; an infant son, Gregory and her son, Frank Stranges; two brothers and three sisters.

Surviving are three daughters, Candis Pubal of St. Clairsville, Karen (Jochen) Obert of Jeffersonville, Vt., and Jackie (Larry) Stanley of Buffalo Grove, Ill.; her grandchildren Philip Pubal, Lori (Eric) Knight, Lauren, Bridget and Jill Stanley, Lindsay and Bethany Stranges; a great-grandson, Zayne Knight, and a future great-grandchild in October; her sister, Kathryn McDaniel of Cambridge; and her sister-in-law, Florence Jolley, of Rock- wall, Texas.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Beck- Altmeyer Funeral Home and Crematory, St. Clairsville, where vigil services will be held at 3:45 p.m.

A funeral liturgy with Mass will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Clairsville with Father Tom Chillog as celebrant.

The Belmont County Council of the American Legion will conduct military rites following Mass.

Burial will follow in Union Cemetery, St. Clairsville.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, St. Clairsville, Ohio, the Area Agency on Aging Region 9, or Belmont Senior Services.
