GUY BLANEY

Guy E. Blaney, 96, of Bethesda, Ohio, died Friday, October 10, 2014 at Barnesville Hospital. He was born January 7, 1918 in Dabney, Arkansas, son of the late B.L. Blaney and Genie Horn Blaney.

He was co-owner of Blaney Lumber and Manufacturing until 1978 and was later employed by Blaney Hardwoods of Ohio. He was a master woodsman and was industry renowned for his ability to walk long distances on rough terrain.

Guy served in World War II and was stationed in Okinawa, where he served as a paratrooper. He was a member of American Legion Post #90 in Bethesda, Bethesda United Methodist Church where he held many offices and jobs, and belonged to the Ohio University Wellness Center.

He was an avid gardener who took great delight in sharing vegetables with his neighbors and friends. He also enjoyed bowling.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Willard, Dexter, Clive, and Dwight Blaney; four sisters-in-law; and two brothers-in-law.

Guy is survived by his wife of 69 years, June Blaney; daughter, Patricia (Bob) Lurvey of Longmont, Colorado; son, James (Brenda) Blaney of Bethesda, Ohio; grandchildren, Elaine (Bryan) Swallow of Longmont, Colorado, Carol (Robert) Bond of Littleton, Colorado; great-grandchildren, Patrick and Isaac Swallow, Eric and Katelyn Bond; brother, Durward (Gwendolyn) Blaney of Vincent, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may visit, Monday from 6-8 p.m., Kelly Kemp Braido & Patron Funeral Home & Crematory, 322 N. Main Street, Bethesda, Ohio where the service will be conducted, Tuesday 11 a.m. Reverend Tom Detling officiating. Interment will follow at Ebenezer Cemetery, Bethesda, Ohio.
