PATSY BAKER
Patsy Rosalie (Mellott) Baker, 89, passed away peacefully Friday, June 15, 2018, at Manor Care Health Services in Indianapolis, IN.
Patsy was born in Neffs, OH, on Jan. 15, 1929, to Raymond and Goldie (McBride) Mellott.
She married Victor Excel Baker on March 6, 1949, in Monroe County, OH. He preceded her in death in 1993.
She was a member of the St. John’s United Church of Christ in Powhatan Point, OH.
Patsy moved to Indianapolis, IN, in 2008 to be near family and regularly attended Calvary Baptist Church in Greenwood, IN.
She supported the military as a proud member of the Navy Mother’s Club. From 1950-1953 Patsy worked as a switchboard operator for General Bell Telephone Company in Wheeling, WV, until she stopped working to raise her sons.
After her sons were older, she returned to work at GTE Telephone Company in Ashland, OH, as a switchboard operator, later moving to a frame person and ending her career with Verizon (formerly GTE) as a flag lady before retiring in 1990. Patsy traveled extensively in her lifetime to include Alaska, Kentucky, Hawaii, Texas and Wyoming and abroad to Germany.
Patsy was also preceded in death by her parents; brother, Donald; and two sisters, Mildred and Edna.
She is survived by two sons, Elison (Adele) Baker and Lance (Sharon) Baker; niece, Judy Reynolds; great-nieces, Terry Reynolds of Clarington, OH, and Nancy Jo Reynolds (Tammi), of South Carolina; four grandchildren, Crystal, Charlotte, Heather, Jamie; and eight great- grandchildren.
Singleton Community Mortuary and Memorial Center is handling the arrangements. Private services and burial will take place in Ohio.
