SALLY ANN NEAL

She was born on June 26, 1934, in Louisville, KY, to the late Mada Skilton Leist Purdy and Edward Leist. Her father passed when Sally was young, and she was parented by Mada and “Big” Ben Purdy. She was a 1952 graduate of Winchester High School in Winchester, KY, and a 1956 graduate of the College-Conservatory of Music, University of Cincinnati, where she met her husband, Millard L. Neal. In 1958, Millard and Sally Ann started the Neal Studio of Music in Martins Ferry (601 Broadway St.) and Barnesville (323 E. Main St.). She was a member of the Barnesville First Presbyterian Church and served on the session and as a deacon. Sally was named Barnesville Citizen of the Year in 2000.

She is survived by her partner and friend, Millard Neal; her three children and their spouses, Jeff (Michelle Bewley) Neal, Lynn Ann (Susanna Holm) Neal, Ben (Julie Helms) Neal; four grandchildren, Steve (Ashley Crawford) Neal, Alex (Jada Helms) Neal, Olivia Neal, Grace Neal; and five great-grandchildren, Alexis, Tanner, Owen, Sophia, and Aidan.

A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 2, 2019, with Pastor Sam Monte officiating at First Presbyterian Church, 124 N. Chestnut St., Barnesville. Visitation starts at 10 a.m., service at 11 a.m., with lunch to follow at the church.
