JAMES F. MARLING

James Franklin Marling, 92, of Shadyside, OH, went to be with Almighty God and his family surrounded by his loving caretakers on September 18, 2019, in Westwood Place, Woodsfield, Ohio.

He was born in Bellaire, Ohio, on April 29, 1927, son of the late James A. Marling and Leona Snyder Marling.

Jim was a retired press operator and inspector from International Harvester and was active in his Union. He was a member of Lincoln Avenue United Methodist Church in Shadyside and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He had a true passion for automobiles and was known for his athletic prowess. Jim had been the subject of an expose “Daddy’s World, Portrait of a Stamping Plant”. He was a frequent attendee on the Liars Bench.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, David and James “Bibby” Marling; two grandchildren, Samuel Luke and Taylor Rae; and three sisters, Betty, Edith and Donna.

Surviving are his two daughters, Kathleen (Randy) Persinger and Dianne (Ed) Good; a daughter-in-law, Laurie Marling; the mother of his children, Rose Culleton Marling Grammar; nine grandchildren, Melissa, Scott (Julie), Elaine (Brian), Ed Mark (Jessica), Jed (Mandy), Emily Rose, Nick, Austin and David Patrick II; 10 great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, John William, Amanda (Thomas), Jocelyn, Samantha Rose, Maggie, Elizabeth, Ayla, Ensley, and Roman; two great-great-grandchildren, Ryleigh and Lillian Rose; nieces, nephews and friends.

Family and friends will be received at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville on Tuesday from 2 p.m. until time of service at 4 p.m. with Rev. Randy Weaver officiating. Private burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
