BARBARA STRAIN

Barbara Ann Strain, 83, of St. Clairsville, Ohio died October 9, 2019 at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born January 18, 1936 in Barton, Ohio, a daughter of the late Michael Kopral and Anna Vanecko Kopral.

Barbara was a 1954 graduate of Bridgeport High School and 1958 graduate of the Ohio State University. She was a retired teacher from several local schools including Scio, Union Local, Mingo Junction and Indian Creek. Her family was most important in her life and she was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great- grandmother. Barb was a very active member of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Barton where she was a member of the Ladies Altar Society. One of her passions, and something she was well-known for was her baking and taking her goods to the St. Clairsville Farmers Market. She also enjoyed watching the OSU Buckeyes.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Beth and Deborah Kay Strain.

Surviving are her husband of 60 years, Robert S. Strain Jr; two children, Robert M. “Mick” (Janie) Strain and Nancy Zielinski; four granddaughters, Devyn Strain and Madelyn Strain, Brittani and Zoie Zielinski; two great grandchildren, Kennedi and Reagan Prentice; three sisters, Mary Jane Kopral, Jo Ann (Bill) Hughes, and Judy (Brent) Stobbs; a brother, James Kopral and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville on Sunday from 4-7 p.m. with a Parastas Service at 6 p.m., and visitation will again be held on Monday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. with a Funeral Service at 7 p.m. A Panachida Service will be held on Tuesday at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m.

The Requiem Divine Liturgy will be held on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Barton with the Very Reverend Michael Kabel officiating. Burial will follow in St. Nicholas Cemetery, Barton. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Nicholas Orthodox Church.
