DON SCHMIDT

He was born December 25, 1932, a son of the late Harold and Dorothy (Doran) Schmidt in Wheeling, WV.

Don was an Army paratrooper veteran serving in the Korean War. He worked for USWA as a steel worker and also worked as a coal miner.

Don was preceded in death by his parents and two daughters, Kelly Schmidt and Sherry Varlas, as well as a son, Daniel Schmidt. He also was preceded by a grandson, Michael Bulian.

He is survived by his wife, Geralene (McCormick) Schmidt of Shadyside, Ohio, along with his children, Jonathan Schmidt of Shadyside, Ohio, Beth (Greg) Robb of Kent, Ohio and Kimberly (Jeff) Prisner of Mozart, WV; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Family and friends will be received at the Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Homes & Crematory, 3900 Central Ave., Shadyside, OH 43947 on Friday, February 7, 2020 from 11 a.m. until time of service at 1 p.m. with Pastor Gerald Blon officiating. Full military honors will be conducted by the Belmont County Council of the American Legion. Burial will follow in Powhatan Cemetery in Powhatan Point, Ohio.
