KATHRYN ZONKER

Kathryn Virginia Baxter Zonker “Kate” was welcomed into Heaven on Tuesday, April 7, 2020. She was 81 years old.

Kate was born in Martins Ferry, Ohio on April 16, 1938 to the late Walter and Virginia Baxter.

Kate was a lifelong devoted Methodist with a deep faith in the risen Savior. Throughout her lifetime she was a member of the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, Deersville UMC, and Tiltonsville UMC where she was active in any way she could help and sang in the choir. She was a retired cashier from Colerain IGA. Kate loved to bake pies and cookies. She really had a talent for this and even won awards for her delicious pies. Her crusts were perfect! Kate also enjoyed visiting shut-ins. She brightened their days with her smile and caring personality, not to mention the goodies she always had for them. In her later years, Kate enjoyed her time at the Colerain Senior Center and going to dances and local concerts with her friends.

Kate was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William P. Zonker; her brother, Bud Dowdell; her sister, Linda Marr; and her daughter, Vicki Ickler.

She is survived by her siblings, Anna (Mike) Snyder and Rich (Elizabeth) Baxter; her children, William (Linda) Zonker of Colerain and Susan (Tom) Pierce of Flushing; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

If you were blessed enough to know Kate then your life was impacted by her kindness, sense of humor, generosity, thoughtfulness, and selfless love. Kate’s legacy will surely live on through her family and friends.

A private family funeral service will be held on Friday, April 10 from 1 p.m. until time of service at 3 p.m. at Care Funeral & Cremation Specialist, 204 West Main Street, St. Clairsville, Ohio with Pastor Dan Holt officiating. Burial will take place at Holly Memorial Gardens.
