MADELYN LENGYEL

She was born February 18, 1945, in Bellaire, OH, to Anthony Michael and Mary Clare (Atherton) Vavra.

Madelyn began her teaching career with the Shadyside Local School District in Ohio before marrying and starting a family. After teaching Science at St. Mary’s Central School in St. Clairsville, OH, for many years, she retired and moved to Arizona with her husband to be closer to her children and granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents; newborn sister, Janet Ann; husband, Robert Bruce; son, Robert Anthony; and infant grandchildren Alanna Lee and Brady Edwin.

Madelyn is survived by her son, Bruce Paul, and his wife Tracy, of Goodyear, AZ, and her granddaughter, Sister Maria Elisabetta di Gesu’ Bambino (Sister Maria Elizabeth of the Child Jesus) of Vigne di Narni, Italy.

In addition, she is survived by her siblings: Michael Vavra of St. Clairsville, OH; Anthony (Carol) Vavra of Bridgeport, OH; John (Joan) Vavra of St. Clairsville, OH; Marian (Marc) Kajfez of Pinehurst, NC; Marlene (Dale) Broomhall of Belmont, OH; and Malissa (Thomas Picchi) Vavra of Clarksburg, WV; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A traditional Latin Requiem Mass was held at Our Lady of Sorrows Roman Catholic Church in Phoenix, AZ, with Father Romaine Pons presiding. Burial followed at Holy Redeemer Catholic Cemetery, also in Phoenix.
