ROBERTA MITCHELL

Roberta Lee Stobbs Mitchell of Colerain passed away March 22, 2020 at age 103 at Seasons Courtyard Cincinnati, OH.

She was born at home January 18, 1917 on Banfield Road., St. Clairsville, OH, one of 11 children of Matthew and Lena Sunderman Stobbs. She was married to Ellis Raymond Mitchell from 1939 until his passing in 2009.

Survived by sons Raymond Bruce (Jill) Mitchell and Mark Cope (Beth Ann) Mitchell; grandchildren, Tricia (Eric) Johnson and Brian Mitchell; sisters, Doris Morrison and Barbara McFarland.

A Bridgeport High School 1935 alumnus, Roberta graduated Summa Cum Laude from Ohio University and taught at Westbrook Elementary School.

She sang at St. Luke’s Episcopal, Kirkwood Methodist, with the Ohio Valley Chorale and sisters Hester Lash and Doris Morrison.

She was an active member of Colerain Presbyterian Church and Colerain Senior Citizens Center. She was a 4-H advisor, hosted many events for Belmont County Co-operative Extension, and volunteered for the American Cancer Society. She traveled throughout Europe and the U.S. She was an avid bird watcher and took many trips with the Brooks Bird Club.

Other interests included genealogy, furniture refinishing, hooked rug making, and geology.

At age 101 she had an art show featuring things she had made, including wood carvings, books, writings, jewelry and paintings.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Colerain Presbyterian Church.
