FRANCIS SPANO

Francis Joseph “Frank” Spano, 90, of Flushing, Ohio died July 20, 2020 in Wheeling Hospital.

He was born September 16, 1929 in Lafferty, Ohio, a son of the late Joseph Spano Sr. and Catherine Surufka Spano.

Frank was a retired owner and operator of Spano Trucking and a mechanic for Kovacs Trucking. He was a Catholic by faith and a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of the Flushing Senior Center and drove their van for 13 years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Delores Jean Leone Spano; a son, Randall Spano; a grandson, A.J. Chance; four brothers, Joseph Jr., Richard, John and George Spano; and two sisters, Mary Bishop and Shirley Spano.

Surviving are his eight children, Thomas (Lisa) Spano, Debra (Joe) Chance, Pamela (Henry) Longevitch, Nancy (Ed) Stenger, Robin (Don) Buonamici, Lisa (David) Heedy, Jacqueline (Jack) Matusek and Hope (Gary) Kurtz; two brothers, Willard and Albert Spano; a sister, Catherine Kovacs; 18 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Private services were held at the convenience of the family with burial in Rock Hill Cemetery, Flushing. Full Military Honors were conducted by the Belmont County Veterans Association. Arrangements entrusted to Toothman Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Wounded Warrior Project.
