Sally Johnson McKenzie passed unexpectedly on September 1, 2020 at her home in Tarpon Springs, Florida. Sally was born in Barnesville, Ohio and graduated from Barnesville High School in 1969.
Sally began working for a dental office at age 16 and then full time two days after her high school graduation. Sally’s career started as a dental assistant. At age 25, she taught dental assisting at a vocational program in the public schools of Columbus, Ohio.
By age 30 she had started her first business (Dental Personnel Placement Services). However, her true business passion was her second business, McKenzie Management where she was a leader for over 40 years in the nation’s dental practice management field. Sally had written for major dental journals, had been a featured speaker for major dental meeting and had written 7 books.
In 1999 she moved to La Jolla, California where she continued her business and remained there for 19 years. Sally moved her main offices to Barnesville, Ohio in 2016 and in 2019 relocated her main office in Tarpon Springs, Florida. Her business included employees in Florida and California, with five field consultants serving across the country.
Sally was living full time in Tarpon Springs, Florida. However, Sally was grateful and blessed to have come from Barnesville, Ohio. Though no longer a Barnesville resident, Sally once said, you can never take Barnesville out of me! Her happiest memories of high school were being a cheerleader.
During her return to Barnesville, she was very influential and helpful to the community by implementing several building renovations. She also donated generously toward many other projects. She also served the community in numerous capacities including leadership and support for the Goaliners, the Barnesville Community Foundation, among others. Also, Sally was recently elected to the Barnesville Area Education Foundation’s Hall of Fame for the 2020 Class Induction.
Sally’s Mother and Father are both deceased. Her mother was Mabel Wells Johnson, who worked for a dental laboratory in Cambridge, Ohio. Sally’s father was Clyde Johnson who worked at Bair’s Furniture.
Sally Johnson McKenzie leaves her beloved brother Thom Bennett of Tarpon Springs, Florida, her niece Tara and countless admirers whose lives and careers in dentistry she helped to shape.
Family services were held for Sally in September in California where she was buried.
