CALVIN SIGMON

Rev. Calvin L. Sigmon, 95, of St. Clairsville, OH, passed away November 17, 2020, in Reynolds Memorial Hospital. He is now in the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Calvin was born in Claremont, NC, a son of the late Charlie and Eva Sigmon. In 1947, he married Kathryn Plyler. The couple resided in Charlotte, NC, and started a loving family. After Calvin graduated in May 1967 from Lutheran Theological Seminary in Columbus, OH, the family moved to Akron, NY, where Calvin served as Pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church from 1967-1971.

He was President of Lutheran Mission Society of Western New York State before coming to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bridgeport, OH, where he served from 1971- 1990. He remained active as Pulpit Supply Pastor throughout the Ohio Valley before serving as interim Pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church in Bridgeport, OH, for three years. Calvin also worked 31 years for the U.S. Postal Service in Charlotte, NC, and Bridgeport, OH.

Calvin was a member of the area 4-H Council and was an honorary 4-H member. He also belonged to the St. Clairsville Ruritan Club for many years and served as area Governor of Ruritan. In his spare time, Calvin enjoyed repairing classic cars and travelling.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 67 years, Kathryn Sigmon, two sons, Calvin “Tony” Sigmon and Barry Sigmon, son-in-law Chris Horne, as well as three brothers and three sisters. Calvin is survived by, Carole (Terry Miller) Sigmon, Melanie (Chuck) Saksa, Myra (Chris – deceased) Horne, and daughter-in-law, Sarah (Barry – deceased) Sigmon (all of St. Clairsville, OH), four grandchildren, Mindy (Trevor) Yates, Ben (Andrea) Saksa, Antonia and Lelia Sigmon, and two great-grandsons, Weston and Landon Yates.

Because of the COVID pandemic there will be no visitation. A private funeral service for the family will be officiated by Pastor Nancy DeStefano. A memorial service will be held later for friends and relatives. Wilson Funeral Home 920 National Road Brookside assisting the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in his memory to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 56381 National Road, Bridgeport, OH 43912 or the Bridgeport Christian Friendship Council.
