DENISE EVICK

Denise Leigh Evick, 57, of Wheeling, WV passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on January 21, 2021, after a valiant battle with ALS.

Denise was born on February 5, 1963 to Donald and Clarice Ann (Coffield) Kestner and was raised in Limestone, WV. She was a 1981 graduate of John Marshall High School and went on to become employed as an office manager at the Wheeling Thunderbirds and later as an office manager for Dr. Altmeyer. Most recently, she was a secretary for Ohio County Schools.

In 1981, she met the late Anthony “Tony” Evick and they wed in 1983, going on to have two children, Anthony Evick II and Brandon. The family enjoyed watching WWE Wrestling, collecting matchbox cars, and vacationing at the beach. She embraced being a “boy mom” and spent countless hours watching Anthony play hockey and listening to Brandon play video games.

Denise had many passions including traveling, cooking, and entertaining family and friends at her much beloved home. However, her biggest passion was being “NiNi” to her four grandchildren: Avery, Lexi, Anthony Evick III, and James. She loved those children beyond measure and cherished each moment she had with them. “NiNi loves you!”

In addition to her first husband, she was preceded in death by her second husband, James “Chris” Grimm, her brother William Kestner, and her father, Donald Kestner.

She is survived by her two sons, Anthony (Jamie) Evick II and Brandon Evick, both of Wheeling; her four beautiful grandchildren; her mother, Clarice Ann Kestner of Moundsville; three sisters, Dawn Ann (James) Byrum of Wheeling, Jeannette (Bernie) Dolan of Wheeling, and Jayne (Jim) Kimberly of Moundsville; a brother, John (Lori) Kestner of Moundsville; and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received Thursday, January 28, 2021, from 11-2pm and 6-8:30pm at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 154 Kruger Street Elm Grove, WV. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, January 29, 2021, at 11:00am. Interment will follow at Limestone Presbyterian Church, Moundsville, WV.
