CHARLES MERRYMAN

Charles L. “Chuck” Merryman, 81, of Shadyside, Ohio passed away on Saturday, April 24, 2021.

He was a resident of Park Health in St. Clairsville, Ohio, where he was well-taken care of by the talented and doting staff. He remained active and happy while there.

Chuck was an outdoorsman at heart, and loved to hunt and especially fish in the rivers and lakes of Ohio, New York, Virginia and Canada. He was a long-time fixture in the Dairy Bar and Tiger Pub in Shadyside, Ohio.

His many hobbies included reading, making lures, winemaking, carpentry, gardening, watching the Penguins, and NASCAR.

Chuck loved cooking chickens, going to “The Strip,” and making sausage with his friends. There was very little he couldn’t craft or fix.

Chuck attended Ohio University and The University of Dayton. He was a retired school teacher in the Buckeye Local school district, where he worked for 30+ years as an industrial arts teacher in woods, metals, drafting, welding, and foundry. Thousands of students benefited from his passion, knowledge, and drive, and he loved what he did. Chuck also worked as a temp during the summers for Air Products and Signode as a welder and mechanic.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Leota (Franke) Merryman of Shadyside, Ohio; and his wife of 40 years, Brenda (Kirby) Merryman, also of Shadyside.

Chuck leaves behind a daughter, Amy Booth (Craig); and a son, Matt (Mariann) Merryman, all of Shadyside. Chuck also leaves behind five grandchildren – Nathan and Dylan Booth, and Zeke, Zak, and Zane Merryman — who all knew him as “Pap.” He will be sorely missed by his family and friends.

Family and friends will be received at the Bauknecht Altmeyer Funeral Homes & Crematory, 3900 Central Ave., Shadyside, Ohio 43947 on Wednesday, April 28 from 1-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 29 at the funeral home.

Chuck has chosen to be cremated.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Marshall County Animal Shelter.
