ROBERT “STUMPY” DONALDSON

Robert Eugene “Stumpy” Donaldson, 77, of St Clairsville, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home, on the early morning of May 4th, 2021, surrounded by his family.

He was born in Wheeling Hospital in Wheeling, WV, on January 3rd, 1944 a son of the late William Edward Donaldson Sr, and Frances Winona (Miller) Donaldson.

Stumpy grew up in Power, WV, Beech Bottom, and Bridgeport and received his formal schooling in Wellsburg, WV. He was a former drummer in a local band, and also lived for a brief time in Columbus, Ohio, before making St. Clairsville, Ohio, his home, after his marriage to the late Pauline Estelle Tyler Donaldson.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, nephew, cousin, uncle, and friend to many in the Ohio Valley. Stumpy attended First Baptist Church, St. Clairsville, Ohio, was a former employee of Grant Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, St Clairsville Schools, International Harvester, Shadyside Stamping, and retired from LESCO in Martins Ferry, Ohio. He was a devoted friend to the St. Clairsville Kennel Club, a member of the F.O.P.A., and a familiar face and dear friend at many local establishments.

Stumpy enjoyed joking around, telling interesting stories, helping people out, and spending time with loved ones whose favorite pastime was roasting him for rooting for That Team Up North and being an unwavering Raiders fan. He was also an avid fan of playing softball, hunting, westerns, and collecting varied memorabilia.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law, Harold and Gertrude Tyler, and his brother-in-law and dear sister, Clifton Sr. and Loretta Spinner.

He is survived by his children, Shawn (Carol) Donaldson, Michele (James) Goodson, Trina (Gabe) Hays, Rob Donaldson and grandchildren, Kalib, Lennon, Mason, Avery, Tia, Jhanae, Ayren, Terry, Tashawn, Jaiden, and a great-granddaughter, Kaliyah Jhene; a brother, William “Donnie” Donaldson, brothers-in-law, Glenn Donaldson and Michael “Mickey” Tyler, and sister- in-law, Cynthia Donaldson; a treasured host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, and his grandcat, Luna.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 15th, 2021 from noon to 4 p.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 50470 National Road, St Clairsville, Ohio.

Private family memorial service immediately following, with Rev. Carl Denson officiating, and Reverend Ellsworth providing musical accompaniment.

Due to the continuing Covid-19 pandemic, social distancing and facial coverings will be required.
