MARY SMOLENAK ZUZAK

Mary Smolenak Zuzak passed away peacefully on December 10, 2021, at 97.

She was born February 4, 1924, in Barton, OH, to Gabriel and Mary (Krolak) Smolenak

A life-long Barton/St. Clairsville area resident, graduating from St. Clairsville High School and was a mother and homemaker. She was the last surviving member of her generational family.

Proceeded in death by parents, Gabriel and Mary (Krolak) Smolenak; older sister, Irene (Stanley) Godaway; younger brothers, John (Katheryn) Smolenak, Michael (Rose) Smolenak; and husband, John H. Zuzak.

She enjoyed spending time with family, friends, her church, baking, crocheting, gardening and playing cards – Particularly a spirited game of Pinochle. She always had in her kitchen freshly baked cookies, cakes or pies for family and visitors.

An active member of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, Barton, OH, with fond memories of baking holiday nut rolls with the church members. She was a life-long member of the former Maynard American Legion, the Women’s Democratic Club, the Barton Fire Department and the Belmont County Senior Citizens in St. Clairsville.

Survived by four sons, Jack (Patricia) Frankfort, IL, Bob (John) Wilton Manors, FL, Tom (Shelia) Castle Rock, CO, and Ron (Bonnie) St. Clairsville, OH; five grandchildren, Kelly Dorn, Jason Zuzak, Eric Zuzak, Casey Zuzak and Jessica Hayes; six great- grandchildren, Josh Dorn, Kait Dorn, Gracyn Zuzak, Berkeley Zuzak, Pierce Zuzak, Jameson Hayes; and nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation will be at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville, OH, on Wednesday, December 15, from 3-7 p.m., with Parastas Service starting at 6 p.m. A Panachida Service will be held on Thursday at 9 a.m. at the funeral home.

The Requiem Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, Barton, OH, with the Very Reverend Michael Kabel officiating. Interment will be held following the service in St. Nicholas Orthodox Cemetery, Barton, OH.

The family requests memorial tributes to be given in Mary’s name to St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, 70600 Barton Rd., St. Clairsville, OH, 43950; or the Barton Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 631, Barton, OH, 43905.
