NIRANJAN “NIRMAL” KAUL
Niranjan Nath “Nirmal” Kaul, 87, of Barnesville, Ohio passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2022 in his home, surrounded by his family. He was born on February 5, 1935 (in official records, May 2, 1935) in Hawanad-Chowalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, India to the late Raghow Ram Pandit and Leela Wati Pandit (nee Devki Rani Kaul).
Following his beloved mother’s guidance to search for the Prem Autar, the God of Love, Nirmal made the decision to become a Disciple of Jesus Christ. He devoted his life to serving others, after his dear Lord and Savior’s example, working in India in a variety of organizations before a partnership with Friends United Meeting brought him to Richmond, Indiana. There he met his wife, Diana. After their marriage on February 10, 1980, they moved to Bensheim, Germany to serve with the Christoffel- Blindenmission. Nirmal and Diana were delighted to welcome two daughters into their lives, making Nirmal “the richest man in the world.”
In 1991, Nirmal and his family moved to Barnesville, Ohio in order to manage the Walton Retirement Home, where he demonstrated profound love and care through his dedicated and diligent work. He retired in 2011 to fulfill his dream of building a house, where he welcomed treasured friends and family from all around the world. Nirmal filled his days with writing his memoirs, tending his garden, working on projects, cooking exquisite foods, relaying stories and jokes, and immersing himself in books, both poetry and prose. He held dear not only his own family but many “adopted” loved ones, supporting all generously through faithful prayers, loving actions, and words of wisdom, readily bestowed.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings Shyam Lal Pandita, Kamala Devi Raina, Omkar Nath Pandita, and an infant sister, Dulari.
Nirmal is survived by his wife, Diana Lynn Kaul, nee Roberts; two daughters, Leela Asha Kaul and Anita Rani Kaul; two siblings, Bansi Lal (Parvesh) Pandita and Autar Krishan Pandita; and nieces and nephews.
A private cremation will take place, with a celebration of his life to be held at a later date. Nirmal’s care has been entrusted to Campbell- Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, 319 North Chestnut Street, Barnesville, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be given to the Walton Retirement Home, Barnesville, Ohio.
