JAMES SMITH

James was born May 9, 1928 to the late Regina Rhodes Diehl in Wheeling.

James was a Sergeant in the United States Army during World War II and was in the Occupation of Japan. He was in the United States Army Security Agency (ASA) which was the Army’s signals intelligence branch. He was a member of the Warwood Vets Club and the American Legion.

In addition to his mother, he is preceded in death by his son Richard and two sisters; Norma Smith Briggs and Gloria Smith Wright

James is survived and greatly missed by; his wife, Josephine (Sue) Smith; Four children, Colleen (Kelly) Smith (Dennis) Pickens, Michael (Cheryl) Smith, Patricia Smith, and Daniel Smith; Five grandchildren, James Pickens, Jennifer Pickens Regal, John Harvey, Kathleen Harvey Ernest, and Joseph Smith; Four great grandchildren, Cole Regal, Keira Regal, Nora Ernest, and Ruby Ernest.

A memorial gathering for James will take place Saturday, July 30, 2022 at 3-5:30pm with a service at 5:30pm at Altmeyer Funeral Home Wheeling Chapel 1400 Eoff St. Wheeling, WV.
