JEAN THOMPSON
Jean Griffith Thompson went to be with the Lord on October 19, 2022. Jean was born at home May 4, 1928 to dairy farmers, Donley and Ferne Reppart Griffith.
Jean loved and graduated from Mt. Pleasant High school in 1946. She sometimes rode her horse, Blondie, into town for many after school activities. She met her husband, Tom, (Paul Thompson Jr.) at the corner of Rt. 150 and 250 at Lightning Peltz’s as she was walking home after work. Tom always said he knew what time her ride from Cadiz dropped her off and arranged to be there! She and Tom married in October of 1947 and spent most of their 65 years of marriage remodeling their beautiful brick home in Mt. Pleasant. Jean had God’s gift of hospitality, entertaining after ballgames, for New Year’s Eves, Christmases, Thanksgivings, as well as numerous community events. Her involvement in the community of Mt. Pleasant was significant with multiple memberships in a variety of service areas. She was a longstanding member of the Mt. Pleasant Friends Church, Jr. Choir director, and held many offices in the Mt. Pleasant Historical Society, Friends Missionary Society, Mt. Pleasant Garden Club, and many other organizations. She learned to quilt from her mother and handmade many beautiful quilts cherished by her family. She, Tom, and their children spent a couple years camping with friends at Seneca Lake Owl’s Nest, which eventually led to all purchasing cabins. Jean water skied and later enjoyed watching her children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren participate in water sports. She became Mt. Pleasant Postmaster and Jean’s North Pole mailbox was very popular, with “Santa” replying to each letter in detail, conspiring with the parents. Jean and Tom traveled extensively after retiring with their friends. Downsizing led them to sell their beloved big brick home and move into a ranch at the edge of town. Jean loved to sit on her back deck with her neighbor, Sue, and watch the cows in the back pasture. After Tom’s death in 2013, Jean spent winters in Venice, FL with Bonnie and Ted and made many friends there.
Preceding her in death, besides her parents, were her husband, Paul Thompson Jr., and brother, Ralph Griffith.
Jean is survived by her children; Donald (Rhoda) Thompson, Ronald (Carolyn) Thompson, Bonnie (Ted) Riggle; Grandchildren : Ben Thompson, Stephanie Luff, Chris Thompson, Bradley Riggle, Brent Riggle, Amanda Stidd, and step grand-children Cathy Riggle and Rose Reed; sixteen great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and lifetime best friend, Carolyn Call.
Being very social, Jean always wanted a big party celebrating her move to Heaven.
Friends and family are invited to calling hours at the Mt. Pleasant Friends Church, 478 Union Street, Mt. Pleasant, Ohio 43939 on Friday, October 21 from 5-7 p.m. and on Saturday from 10-11 prior to the service commencing at 11 a.m. Internment following at the Shortcreek Friends Cemetery.
