JOHN P. FEISLEY
John Pershing Feisley of St. Clairsville, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, November 13th.
Born on October 19, 1918 to John and Elizabeth Feisley, John was one of four children. He attended Salem High School in Clarington, Ohio where he graduated in 1937. He was a 1941 graduate of The Ohio State University with a degree in Agricultural Education. He also served in the United States Navy.
John’s passion was Christmas Trees. He began tree farming in the late 1940’s, as a young man working as a soil conservation agent in Ohio. On a visit to an area farm, Feisley spoke with a man who was growing Christmas trees and soon began planting his own trees in the hills of Eastern Ohio. On October 11, 1952, John married Marian Gorsuch which turned tree farming into a true family business, which now spans three generations.
John was an active member of the National Christmas Tree Growers Association and was instrumental in starting the Ohio Christmas Tree Growers Association.
John is preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Virginia Morgan, and his two brothers, Glenn and Frederick Feisley as well as his children, John Stewart Feisley and Frederick Feisley.
He is survived by his son, Geoffrey E. Feisley (Theresa) of Belmont, Ohio, and grandsons, Jacob D. Feisley of Swanton, Maryland and William P. Feisley (Emily) of Belmont, Ohio, his daughter Anne Feisley Holmes (Murray) of Westerville, Ohio and their son Marcus Livingston (Tanya), and their grandchildren Riley and Taylor of Bloomingburg, Ohio.
Visitation will be at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville, Ohio on Thursday, November 17th from 6-8 pm and again on Friday, November 18th from 10 am to time of service at 11 am with Rev. Margie Carr officiating.
