BETTY WHARTON
Betty Jeanne (Vargo) Wharton, 85 of Colerain, OH passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at Wheeling Hospital. She was born June 24, 1937, the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Gocsik) Vargo.
She worked for many years at the Total Sports Connection in Martins Ferry, and the Martins Ferry Chamber of Commerce, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary – Martins Ferry Post #38. Betty was one of founding members of the Martins Ferry Football Mom’s organization.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her ex-husband Richard D. Wharton in 2020, brother James Vargo, sister-in-law Norma Jean Vargo, sister, Mary Margaret Littleton.
Left to cherish her memory are her three sons, Chris (Lisa) Wharton, Bill Wharton, and Chuck Wharton all of Colerain, grandchildren; Jake (Kayley) Wharton, Luke Wharton, Ben Wharton, Zeke (Amanda) Wharton, Katie (Michael) Neavin, Cole Wharton, and Nate Wharton, great-grandchildren; Parker, Layla, and Grayson sister and best friend; Dorothy Powell and many nieces and nephews.
Betty was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who loved her family and to cheer on her alma mater the Purple Riders, she will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Family and friends will be received at the Wilson Funeral Home – Heslop Chapel, 415 Walnut St., Martins Ferry, OH on Thursday, December 15, 2022, from 4-8pm, funeral service will be on Friday, December 16, 2022, at 11 am at the funeral home. Burial follows at Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, OH.
