MICHAEL J. EVONEK

Michael J. Evonek, 75, of Bellaire, OH, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 30, 2022, after he passed at the James Cancer Hospital in Columbus.

He was a son of the late Michael and Josephine (Rehor) Evonek.

Mike was a graduate of Shadyside High School and attended Ohio University and West Virginia Northern. He was a graduate of the Ohio State Highway Patrol Academy.

Mike served in the United States Army Security Agency for 4 years with tours of duty in Turkey and Japan. He was a proud American and displayed the American flag daily. He was a state trooper for the Ohio State Highway Patrol, serving at the Steubenville and St. Clairsville Posts. Mike retired from the Ormet Security Department. He was a member of the Stone Chimney Association and a member of East Richland Evangelical Friends Church.

Mike was an avid fan of Ohio State Buckeyes, the Cincinnati Reds, and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He enjoyed his 6 grandkids, his 2 Maltese dogs Abby and Lexi, and working around his landscape and pool.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Michael A. Evonek, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Michael and Jennie (Kocsis) Nester, and sister-in-law, Penny Nester.

Mike is survived by his wife, of 54 years, Yolonda (Nester) Evonek; son, Robert “Bob” (Stefanie) Evonek; daughter, Lori (Jerry) Orr; 6 grandchildren, Sarah and Allyson Evonek, Blake (Larissa) Orr, David (Madison Vickers) Orr, Casara and Samantha Orr; former daughter-in-law, Deni; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Michael “Mick” (Sandy) Nester, Gary Nester, and Anthony “Ted” (Denise) Nester; cousins, Anthony Mohorovich, John Schiller, and JoAnn Panuska; several nieces, nephews, and many special friends.

Family and friends will be received at East Richland Evangelical Friends Church on Thursday, Dec. 8th from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., with Military Honors at 7:45 p.m. Visitation will be held again Friday from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m., with Rev. Dr. Jerry Wenger officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Toothman Funeral Home.
