HELEN “JERRY” MCCLAIN
It is with great sorrow and bittersweet gratitude that we announce the passing of our beautiful mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Helen Geraldine (Sherwood) McClain.
Jerry was born May 30, 1930 to William and Rosanna (Whiteman) Sherwood in her home on Harrison Street in Bellaire,Ohio.
Jerry leaves behind a bunch of items that no one knows what to do with and her dysfunctional family, who she loved dearly with her whole heart. Survived are her daughters Laurie Parker and Susan Crow. Grandchildren, Pete (Erica) Keller, John (Amanda) Keller, Audrey (Nick) Taflan, Aaron (Kayla) Crow, Andrew and Emily Crow, Mitch Parker. She was GG Nums to 19 great grandchildren who she thought the world of.
She is preceded in death by her high school sweetheart and husband, John “Mack” McClain and eldest daughter, Shawn Ann Keller.
She worked for many years as an office manager for Dr.Tom Ring and was a long term bookkeeper for Medical Park’s Anesthesiologist office.
Jerry loved to garden and you could often find her in her yard pruning her prized Rhododendrons and tending to her hostas. She was a wild one on her tractor.
Her grandchildren could often talk her into a game of billiards, or a round of golf. She often beat us all in a feisty game of Trivial Pursuit. The kind of grandma to bake you cookies, she was not. She was known to throw a pan or two of burnt brownies over the hill to the heifers. But she did attend every school event that her grandchildren had and was looking forward to seeing her oldest great grandsons play football this fall. She was active in Band Mother’s, Secretary’s Club and enjoyed playing Bridge with her friends.
She was a 1948 graduate of Bellaire High School where she was a cheerleader and spent her summers at the Bellaire Pool flirting with Mack while he was on lifeguard duty although she was also supposed to be on duty as well.
There will be no funeral services at this time but the family is planning a Celebration of Life in her honor at the end of May.
