JOHN CALLARIK
John Joseph Callarik, 97, of Bridgeport passed away peacefully Thursday, March 23, 2023, at the East Ohio Regional Hospital in Martins Ferry. He was born on December 12, 1925, the son of the late Frank and Helen Callarik.
John was owner and operator of the JJC Excavating, Chapter Square Laundromat, Tanning Salon, Storage Units, Car Wash, Rental Buildings, and 2 U Flea Market. He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, a member of the Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce, American Legion, VFW, Union member of IUOE #132, past president of the Bridgeport Exempted Village School District. Mayor of the Village of Bridgeport for 18 years, and a veteran of the United States Army serving his country in WWII. John was inducted into the Veterans Hall of Fame in 2021. He had a deep affection and love for the village of Bridgeport and its residents.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, the love of his life, Della (Minehart) Callarik, a son John R. Callarik, siblings, Alex, Joseph, Frank, Steven, George Callarik, Mary Fairbanks, and Anna Clark.
Left to carry on his legacy and cherish his memory are his son, Bruce (Katie Norris) Callarik, daughter, Shirleann (Jim) Murad, Sandy (Jerry) Davis, grandchildren, Casey (Carrie) Callarik, Stacey Callarik, Brandi and Ashlyn Callarik, Allison Montgomery, Mikida Clegg (Willie), Maclaine Murad, Jessica Davis, Keith Davis, Erin Alldredge (Derek), Curtis Kelly, Gerald Davis, Jr., (Melissa) and 16 great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his special friend, Michele M. Vinci who filled his life with companionship, love, and laughter.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, from 1-8pm at the Wilson Funeral Home, 920 National Rd., Brookside. Full Military Honors will be presented on Thursday, March 30th at 9:15am at the funeral home, Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10am at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 630 Main St., Bridgeport, OH 43912, with Fr. John Mucha officiating. Burial to follow at Greenwood Cemetery, 1526 National Rd., Wheeling, WV 26003.
