PATRICK MCFARLAND

Pat was born on April 21, 1947, to Lewis and Bernice McFarland in Wheeling, WV. Pat lived in the same house in Dillonvale, OH for the first 21 years of his life. He graduated from Dillonvale High School in 1965, then began attending Ohio University. After three years he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. Following basic training, he married Sherry Hobson. They went to Biloxi, MS, where Pat completed electronics school. Pat was stationed at McClellan Air Force Base, in Sacramento, in 1969; and after four years of service, Pat and Sherry were Californians who referred to Ohio as home.

Pat completed his schooling at Sacramento State University and McGeorge School of Law. Pat began working as an attorney in 1979, while Sherry was establishing herself in a successful insurance career.

Pat grew up an avid sports fan and remained loyal to all Cleveland teams and The Ohio State University Buckeyes. He coached both of his daughters in softball. Camping and houseboating at Lake Englebright was his favorite thing to do. He took road trips on his Harley Davidson, but most enjoyed his time with family. He never missed a game or event of his daughters, and was an active, doting grandfather.

Pat is survived by his wife, Sherry; daughters, Terri and Erin; son-in-law, McShane Clifton; and grandchildren Ian, Drew, Sela, Colt, and Cruz.

A celebration of Pat’s life will be held at Northminster Presbyterian Church, 3235 Pope Avenue, Sacramento, on April 26, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Sacramento SPCA.
