HELEN CARPENTER
Helen Oliver Carpenter, 89, of Moundsville, West Virginia, formerly of Holloway, Ohio, died Sunday, July 9 at home after a series of illnesses. A steady stream of children, grandchildren and great grandchildren comforted her and conveyed their affection by visiting her bedside on her final days.
Helen used a unique sense of humor, bluntness, and signature laugh to influence the lives of three generations of offspring, who will fondly retell her lessons and family stories. She was born on March 23, 1934, in Woodruff, West Virginia. She is the daughter of the late Samuel and Ruth Oliver and daughter- in-law of the late Thomas and Mary McGary.
She married the late Robert Carpenter in 1954 and they raised their five children first in St. Clairsville, Ohio and then Holloway, Ohio before moving back to her native Marshall County.
She was a member of the Holloway Methodist Church and was active in the Helping Hands program. She worked for several years at Belmont Habilitation Center and along with her husband owned and operated Bob’s Bar in Holloway, Ohio.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother Robert Oliver and one sister Delores (Babe) Longwell along with one son, Robert (Bobby) Carpenter and his wife Kim.
She is survived by her daughters: Rachael (Bob) Singell of Galena, Ohio; Cindy (Gerry) Griffith of San Diego, California; Joyce Fromhart and her fiance, John Harrigan, of Glen Dale, West Virginia; and Mary Kay (Kevin) Roseberry of Shadyside, Ohio.
Grandchildren: Sheri Carpenter of Belmont, Ohio; Heather (Evan) Weidenhamer of Columbus, Ohio; Eric Gongola of Charleston, South Carolina, Travis Norris of San Diego, California; Rob (Leah) Gongola of Chardon, Ohio; Joshua Fromhart of Moundsville, West Virginia; Katie (Greg) McNemar of Colum- bus, Ohio; Brianne (Jay Brehm) Roseberry of Shadyside, Ohio Jacob (Stacey) From- hart of Elliott City, Maryland; Blake (Becky) Roseberry of Pickerington, Ohio; Conor Griffith and his fiancee Lani Snyder of Stockdale, Pennsylvania; and Bailey and Bella Roseberry of Shadyside, Ohio. She is also survived by 24 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Thursday, July 13, 2023 at the Altmeyer Funeral Home 118 Grant Ave., Moundsville, WV. Services will be held on Friday, July 14, 2023 at Altmeyer Funeral Home with Rev. Kevin Roseberry as Celebrant. Interment at Belmont Memorial Park in St. Clairsville, OH will immediately follow.
