JAMES J. SLOAN

James John Sloan, 87, of Midway, Ohio, died August 26, 2023, at the Arbors of Woodsfield, Ohio.

He was born August 4, 1936, in Crescent, Ohio, a son of the late James E. Sloan and Katherine Dudek Sloan.

Jim was a graduate of St. Clairsville High School and spent his working career as a coal miner, state mine inspector and for Mine Rescue and was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of the American Legion Post 159 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5356; a founding member of the Fairpoint Polish Club; and a member of Weyer Lodge 541 F. & A.M. in Centerville. Jim enjoyed hunting and fishing, painting and his pets.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Sarah Snider Sloan.

Jim is survived by his two children, Michelle (Jeff) Johnson and James B. (Linda Moore) Sloan; a sister, Dorothy Thompson; two grandchildren, Rosie (Eric) Wright and Jake Johnson; three great- grandchildren, Tylee Davis, Emma Wright and Adrianna Wright; several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received on Monday, Aug. 28th from 3-7 p.m., with Masonic service at 6:45 p.m., at the Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville, where services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with William “Beezie” Pollock officiating. Burial with Full Military Honors by the Belmont County Veterans Association will follow in Union Cemetery, St. Clairsville.
