Judy Ann (Schmidt) Hanlon, 73, passed away with faithful bravery and dignity Sunday, October 8, 2023 after battling cancer. She was born on August 28, 1950 to A. Joan (Pringle) and Robert E. Schmidt of Sharon, Pennsylvania who, along with sister-in-law Greta Schmidt, preceded her in death.

Judy is survived by her husband of 52 years, Thomas M. Hanlon of St. Clairsville, Ohio, son Cory Hanlon (and wife, Jessica) of Clarksville, Ohio, daughter Hillary Morgan (and husband, Rodney) of Greens- burg, Pennsylvania, as well as her two brothers, Terry (Peggy) Schmidt and Rick Schmidt. She will forever be Mimi to her grandchildren, Jenna and Nick Hanlon, and Hunter, Haley, and Ozzy Thomas Morgan.

Through all her seasons of life, Judy laid gentle hands upon her community in nurturing roles like leader of Brownie Troop #3066 (c. 1987) or member of the St. Clairsville Red Devil Football Moms (c. 1995). Most remember her as “The Bookstore Lady” of Wheeling Jesuit University where she worked as manager for 25 years. Some remember her sculpting updos and beehives as a Flambeau beautician during the 1970s in Wheeling. Judy also served in the St. Clairsville Young Women’s Club, the Belmont County Easter Seals, and was a distinguished member of the St. Clairsville Tuesday Night Club literary group. She attended Thoburn United Methodist Church for over 50 years.

Judy and Tom came as a package deal and they embodied true partnership, indistinguishable in devotion, values, and service to one another, their friends, and family. Influenced by their childhood friendship and enriched by decades of unwavering trust, they prioritized playfulness, quality time, and love in all that they did for better or worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health. Constant companions to the end, Judy took her last breath hand in hand with her true love.

Judy’s presence was the iridescent fiber connecting so many webs of friendship and fellowship, whether it was the after-church lunch crew or St. Clairsville High School classmates or Abbey’s regulars. Judy and Tom are proven curators of good times and great people. Their crowded tables always have room for one or two more. Their cups are always half full. Their smiles are always genuine.

In life Judy was jubilant, authentic, loyal, tender, selfless, and full to the brim with a unique and easy kind of grace. For anyone who knew her, she is wholly and unjustly irreplaceable.

Family and friends will be received at the Thoburn United Methodist Church, 209 E. Main Street, St. Clairsville, OH 43950 on Saturday, October 28, 2023 from 11 a.m. until the time of service at 2 p.m. with Pastor Dave St Aubin.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital by going to TMCFunding. com.
