RICHARD DAVIES

Richard Tudor Davies, son of Welsh immigrants Gwladys and Glyn Davies who met in the US, was born in Martins Ferry, Ohio on July 3, 1935. He died on October 9, 2023 at 88 years old.

He served two years in the US Army – Infantry where he was able to bring his bride to live in Germany. Upon discharge, they returned to the Ohio State University to finish his degree. His childhood was spent in the steel belt as his father worked in the mill, making Richard the first in the family to obtain a college degree. He then joined Wheeling Steel Corporation and spent 37 years in the sales organization. His career involved moving the family from Ohio to West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Michigan and finally Kentucky, where the family was happy to call home. They settled in Prospect Kentucky where they became charter members of Hunting Creek Country Club and were avid golfers. Upon retirement they wintered in Florida to play golf year round. Richard was proud to maintain his Masonic membership for a lifetime.

Richard and Shirley lived their later years at the Masonic Community in Louisville.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Shirley Morris Davies, also from Martins Ferry. Their children survive well because they know they were loved. Daughters Janet Miller, Susan Srouji (Salim), Linda Hart (Tom), and Ellen Dries (Denis). Also loved were six grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

A celebration of Richard’s life will be held at Hunting Creek Country Club Friday October 20, 4-7pm.
