Eugene (Gene) Spencer Badia, Jr. left us on September 30, 2023. Eug passed gently at his home in Georgia with his hands lovingly held and his adored dog by his side.

Born on August 9, 1949 in Bellaire, Ohio, Eugene was the first child of Eugene and Mary Jane Schramm Badia. While serving in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam conflict, he married Jeanie (Hye Ok). They had two remarkable children, Douglas, currently of Tampa, and Terri Ann, who passed away in 2002. After a career in the mines at North American #3, Quarto #4, and #7, Eugene moved to Florida. He extended the lessons of the Badia Dodgers to girls’ softball. Following the coaching traditions of his dad, Eug supported opportunities for many players’ collegiate access, including his daughter. Later in life, he met Elizabeth (Susi) Lewis, his partner of 20 years, and they lived out many of Eugene’s dreams, including traveling to meet family in Italy, cruising, dancing, beach living, and spending his final years on a sailboat.

Eugene is survived by six siblings who appreciate and love him: Susan (Bill West), Brenda (Ed Violet), Mark (Tracy Howell), Lisa, Steven (Tracy McCabe), and Janet (Lachlan Whalen). He is also survived by four beautiful grand- children from his son, Doug, and fifteen nieces and nephews, whom he always invited to visit.

Eugene wished to be cremated, celebrated beachside in Florida, and memorialized in Ohio at Holly Memorial Gardens. Contributions honoring Eugene are asked to be in the spirit in which he lived: adopt a pet, enjoy a sunset with a loved one, share a story with a stranger, and please support the Women’s Softball Program in Honor of Terri Ann Badia at Barry University by donating to ATTN: Robert Jensen 11300 NE 2nd Ave. Miami Shores, FL. 33161 or by visiting www.barry. edu/give.
