ELEANOR SIMONS

Eleanor “Ellie” Rose Simons of Kernersville, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, December 4, 2023, at the Kate B. Reyolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem, NC. Ellie was born in Powhatan Point, Ohio, to Paul and Veronia Ingold on July 21, 1940. Ellie grew up in Wickliffe, Ohio and graduated from the Bob Jones Academy in Greenville, South Carolina.

It was in Wickliffe, Ohio, where Ellie Ingold met Tom Simons, the love of her life. Ellie and Tom were married on January 24, 1959, and were happily married for 64 wonderful years. After being longtime Powhatan Point, OH and Clarksburg, WV residents, Ellie and Tom retired, first to Delaware, Ohio and then to Kernersville, NC.

Ellie was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who was affectionately called Nanny by her grandchildren, Scott Hartzell, Emily Snipes, Luke Simons and Abigail Simons as well as great-grandchildren Jackson and Hannah Hartzell and Ezekiel and Roman Snipes. Ellie considered being their Nanny the joy of her life.

Ellie is survived by her loving Husband, Tom, and their children, Christine (Dean) Hartzell of Kernersville, NC and Thomas “Tommy” (Pam) Simons of Westerville, Ohio; four grandchildren; Scott Hartzell, Emily (Justin) Snipes, Luke Simons and Abigail Simons; four great grandchildren Jackson and Hannah Hartzell and Ezekiel and Roman Snipes.

Ellie is also survived by her beloved family members, including her sister-in-law Marsha (Dale) Ingold, nephews Russell (Melinda)Woda, Jeffrey (Lynette) Woda, and Curt (Tawn) Ingold, as well as several great nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

Ellie was preceded in death by her parents, Paul Christopher, and Veronica (Paige) Ingold, her brother-in-law, Russel Frank Woda, her best friend and sister, Doris Ann Woda, her brother, Paul Michael Ingold and her brother, Dale Patrick Ingold.

A private graveside service for immediate family members will be held at the Powhatan Cemetery in Powhatan Point, Ohio.
