MARK TORBETT

Mark Stephen Torbett, 64, of Wheeling, WV, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family, Sunday, February 25, 2024 from stage four renal cell carcinoma.

He was born in Wheeling, a son to the late John and Stephania (Latka) Torbett. Mark was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church. He is a U.S. Air Force Veteran, where he started his career in fire fighting. He continued his work with the California Department of Forestry and later became a FireFighter and Paramedic/ EMT in Wheeling, totaling 32 years of experience.

He loved sports but was an avid football fan, especially the Pittsburgh Steelers, WVU Mountaineers and Wheeling Park Patriots. Mark enjoyed traveling with his family and would travel to watch his son, daughters, and neph- ews play a variety of sports. He was an excellent cook, some of his favorite dishes to make were ham & dough and cabbage rolls and would always say that was how he showed his love to those around him.

Mark was an extremely outgoing person with a gregarious personality, he never met a stranger. His sense of humor was unparalleled and loved telling jokes and making those around him laugh. He treasured his family, dogs, and life long friends.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his sister, Paula Durr.

Mark is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Patricia “Patty” (Steedman) Torbett of Wheeling; four children, Emily Burns of Pittsburgh, PA, Megan (Cory) Hurd of Charlotte, NC, Alyssa Torbett of Baltimore, MD and Zachary Torbett of Wytheville, VA; two brothers, Lionel (Sharon) Torbett of Lexington, SC and Bruce (Darla) Torbett of St. Clairsville, OH; his grandson, Theodore Thomas “Theo” Hurd and several, nieces, nephews, great- nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

Family and friends will be received Friday, March 1, 2024 from 1-3 pm & 5-8 pm, at Altmeyer Funeral Homes, Wheeling Chapel, 1400 Eoff St. A mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, March 2, at 11 am at St. Michael Catholic Church.
