FRANCIS “BILL” SOMEROSKI

Francis William (Bill) Someroski, age 94, of Urbana, Ohio, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2024.

Bill was born in Detroit, Michigan on April 5, 1929. He was raised on his family’s farm in Mt. Pleasant, Ohio, and graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School. After high school, Bill was drafted into the Army during the Korean Conflict, where he received his first training and experience with military defense systems, working as a radar equipment foreman.

After his honorable discharge from the Army in 1953, Bill attended Ohio State University and graduated with a degree in electrical engineering. He spent most of his career working at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, earning recognition for 22 years of faithful and devoted Federal Civilian Service and for noteworthy achievements which contributed significantly to the accomplishment of the Air Force Mission on the occasion of his retirement from the United States Air Force in 1993.

Bill’s childhood inspired a lifelong love of farming, farmland, and Ohio. He was happiest at his farm in Urbana, surrounded by the beautiful fields of corn and soybeans. He was an experienced pilot and enjoyed flying over Ohio, taking spectacular aerial photos of Ohio farms and scenery. He also enjoyed playing his guitar and was a ham radio enthusiast.

Bill was a devoted brother and son, and in his later years, he dedicated himself to caring for his beloved mother and brother.

Bill is survived by his nephew, Anthony W. Vittimberga of California, and his nieces Gail Vittimberga Gay of Connecticut, and Dr. Gwenn M. Vittimberga of Rhode Island, as well as other family and friends.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents William and Rena Someroski, his two brothers James Melvin Someroski and John Robert Someroski, and his sister Jacklyn Someroski Vittimberga.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00pm on Friday April 5, 2024, with Fr. William Cross officiating, at Wilson Funeral Home, 154 2nd Street, Dillonvale, Ohio. Visitation will be held immediately prior, from 10:00am to 12:00 noon. Burial will follow the funeral service at Holly Memorial Gardens in Colerain, Ohio.
