FRANK SHIMEK

Francis “Frank” Shimek, 85, of Powhatan Point, Ohio, passed away on April 18, 2024.

Frank was many things, including a veteran of the US Air Force and retiree from the Army Corps of Engineers, but what he was to his family was a strong, loving, and selfless man who shied away from taking credit for any of the caring things he did. In John 15:13, Jesus says “Greater love has no one than this: To lay down one’s life for one’s friends,” and Frank did this quietly for his family, not wanting any recognition or thanks, especially in recent years as he cared for his wife. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him, but his humor and quick wit will live on as witnessed in his grandkids.

Frank is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lena; his siblings, Donald (JoEllen) Shimek and Betty (Duane) Martin; his son Michael (Tonya) Shimek; his grandchildren, Jamie (Jamar) Longshore, Ian Warren (Ally Conrad), Theresa Dietrich Giffen (Trey Martin), and Taylor, Makayla, Caroline, and Kassidy Shimek; great-grandchildren Morgan and Collin Giffen and Cora Jane Warren; and many in-laws, nieces, and nephews who loved him dearly.

Frank is preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Margaret Shimek; his brother Robert (Eleanor) Shimek; his daughters Deborah Lynn and Donna Jean Shimek; and his 2 loyal fur buddies Kirby and Jake.

To honor his wishes, no service will be held, and as his last act of selfless sacrifice, he requested his body be donated to an anatomy gifts registry to further science in hopes of helping someone else.
