Helen “Jeannie” (Furney) Shepherd, 79, of Barnesville, Ohio passed away on Friday, August 9, 2024 at Barnesville Hospital. She was born on August 19, 1944 in Barnesville, Ohio to the late Clyde Herman and Lillian Doris (Jefferies) Furney.

Jeannie was a lifelong resident of both Barnesville and Bethesda. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and for her warmth and generosity towards her family and within the community. Jeannie was an avid antique collector and accomplished floral designer along with being the first certified female firefighter for the Bethesda Volunteer Fire Department. She was a member of the Assumption Church of Barnesville and a proud supporter of the Epworth Park Cottage Community where she along with Mike renovated two cottages.

In addition to her parents, Jeannie was preceded in death by her sister, Suzann Furney; brother Clyde Richard Furney; and brother-in-law David Perkins.

Jeannie is survived by her husband, Mike Shepherd; son Jay (Ken) Shepherd; daughter Jan (Curtis) Caldwell; sister, Carolyn “Kay” Perkins; and two very special nieces which she considered to be her other daughters, Lisa (Bill) Perkins and Tammy (Donald) Wells. Jeannie was also a special grandma to the Skinner Family of Barnesville and so very proud of her kids, Astin, Haiden, and Jayln.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 from 6-8 p.m. at Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, 319 North Chestnut Street, Barnesville, Ohio. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 16, 2024 at 11am with Fr. Dave Cornett officiating at Assumption Catholic Church, 306 West Main Street, Barnesville, Ohio 43713. Private inurnment will take place at Ebenezer Cemetery in Bethesda, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, Jeannie requested that donations be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in her name.
