JOYCE MELLOTT
On February 12, Joyce Marie Mellott went home to meet the God who loved her without measure.
Born on August 19, 1940, in Bellaire, Ohio, to the late William and Idella Johnson, Joyce met her high school sweetheart, Francis Mellott, in 1956. They built a home together and worked side by side in their family businesses, Mellott Distributing and M&M Sales. Joyce’s greatest joy came from her family–managing her home, nurturing her three children and three grandchildren, and celebrating the arrival of her five great-grandchildren. She loved baking and creating magical Christmas experiences for family and friends.
A lifelong member of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), she made her spiritual home at Shadyside Christian Church for over sixty years – leading worship as an Elder, serving on the congregational Board, teaching classes, and even preaching on occasion. She also contributed at the denominational level, serving on the Ohio Regional Board and as a retreat leader for the Christian Women’s Fellowship.
Joyce was actively involved in her community. She chaperoned for Shadyside High School Band and helped plan the American Heart Association’s Ohio Valley Heart Fund Ball. She earned an associate degree in business from Ohio University to further her personal and professional goals.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, one sister, and one great-grandchild.
She is survived by her husband Francis, one sister, three children, three grandchildren, and five great- grandchildren.
Family and friends will be received at Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Home, 3900 Central Avenue, Shadyside, Ohio, on Friday, February 14, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Additional visitation will be held on Saturday, February 15, from 10:00 AM until the service at 11:00 AM, with Rev. Dr. David Mellott, Rev. Lance Mullins, and Fr. Dan Heusel officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Joyce M. Mellott Endowed Scholarship for Women in Ministry at Christian Theological Seminary, 1000 West 42nd Street, Indianapolis, Indiana, 46208, or online at cts.edu/give.
