ANN SWEARINGEN
Ann Michele Swearingen, 68, of St. Clairsville, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh after a courageous battle with leukemia. She was born March 7, 1957, in Kingston, New York, a daughter of the late John and Esther Ritvanen Schroeder.
Ann retired as a Physical Therapist after 44 years. She worked at Peterson Rehabilitation, East Ohio Regional Hospital, and Trinity Health System. She was a member of the Oglebay Woodcarvers Guild and the St. Mary Catholic Church in Martins Ferry. Ann was a pillar of strength for all those around her and loved by all that knew her. She found joy in her creative passions gardening, woodcarving, painting, drawing, sewing, and pottery. Most of all, she was a proud grandma who loved going to her grandkid’s activities and sporting events.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her twin brothers, Jon and Paul Schroeder; father in law, Edgar Swearingen Sr.; and a brother in law, Edgar Swearingen Jr.
She is survived by her husband, Ronald Swearingen; two daughters, Natalie and Alyssa Swearingen; two grandchildren, JJ and Kalynn Swearingen; sister, Lisa (James) Smith; brother, David (Denise) Schroeder; mother in law, Patricia Swearingen; her in laws, Doug (Mia) Swearingen, Diana (Jim) Carilli, Dennis (Tammy) Swearingen, Mary (Rick) Reynolds, Chris (Heather) Swearingen; and several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received on Friday from 4-8 p.m. at the Toothman Funeral Home, St. Clairsville with a vigil service at 4 pm. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be on Saturday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Martins Ferry at 11 am with Fr. Thomas Marut as celebrant. Final arrangements will be held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or to a trust that will be established for her grandchildren.
