EUGENE “GENE” BEDNARSKI

Eugene Henry “Gene” Bednarski, 83, of Pickerington, OH, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on September 17, 1941, in Adena, OH, he was the beloved son of the late Henry and Mary Bednarski (Soboleski).

The beginning of his life was being surrounded by God as a baptized infant at St. Casimir’s Church in Adena, spending his early childhood at their elementary school, and serving as an altar boy. A proud 1959 graduate of Adena High School, Gene was a talented tri-sport athlete, excelling in football, basketball, and track and field. Shortly after graduation, he answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the United States Navy in October 1959. He served honorably aboard the USS Constellation until 1963, earning certification as an electrician–a skill that would shape his lifelong career.

Following his military service, Gene settled in Columbus, OH, where he built a life centered on hard work, family and service to his community. He was among the original Violet Township Volunteer Firefighters in Pickerington and later retired after 35 years from Lucent-Celestica Technologies as a supervisor. His dedication to his fellow veterans never wavered, as he remained an active and longtime member of The American Legion Post #283, proudly serving on the Honor Guard.

Beyond his service and career, Gene found solace and joy in the great outdoors. Whether he was hunting in the woods, casting a fishing line or boating on the water, he was truly at peace in nature. His love for football was undeniable, and Saturdays in the fall were dedicated to cheering on The Ohio State Buckeyes.

Above all, Gene was a devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather who cherished time spent with his family. His children and grandchildren remember him as a source of unwavering love, strength and wisdom. His stories, humor and guidance will be deeply missed and forever treasured.

Gene is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 51 years, Susan Bednarski, and his parents.

He leaves behind his three loving daughters: Gina (Ted) Stacy of Pickerington, OH, Janet (Scott) Bartholow of Pickerington, OH, and JoAnn (Eric) Smith of Heath, OH; seven adoring grandchildren: Megan (Mark), Paige (Mike), Brittany (Trent), Allison, Shawn, Kayle, and Erika; five cherished great-grandchildren: Bridge, Mackenzie, Colton, Wrenley, and Hudson; his brother Norman Bednarski; his beloved companion Bonnie Bailey; nephew, nieces, numerous cousins, and dear friends.

Gene’s life was one of service, adventure, and love–a life well-lived and deeply valued. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
