HAZEL BROWN

Hazel E. Brown, 89, formerly of Shadyside, OH passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at Continuous Care Center of Wheeling Hospital, Wheeling, WV.

She was born in the family home on Clover Ridge on June 12, 1936, the youngest daughter of the late William Christian Kanzigg and Eula M. (Baker) Kanzigg.

Hazel was a member of Grandview Christian Church.

She began working for Gress Bakery after graduation from Shadyside High School, and after many combined years of work she retired from Lewis Pastry Shop. Hazel was fond of the sweet creations that the bakeries were so well known for, and she continued her love of sweets with a cup of coffee for the rest of her life.

Hazel was an avid walker and as such enjoyed her time outdoors with nature. She also loved books and instilled a love of reading in her children and grandchildren, which brought her great joy. Family was the center of her life. She cherished the phone calls, letters, cards, and visits from friends and family and looked forward to receiving them.

Hazel was a faithful wife, loving mother and grandmother and embodied a quiet gentle spirit of kindness to all that knew her.

In addition to her parents, Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, Loren Brown, her sons-in-law, Robert C. Futhey and David G. Knight, brothers, Raymond and Lester Kanzigg, sisters, Margaret Williams, and Eileen Guthrie Delaney

Hazel is survived by her daughters, Donna Futhey Knight, and Karen (Lawrence “Larry”) Boyd; four grandchildren, Robert P. (Gina) Futhey, Sara (Curtis) Knight Henthorn, Em Boyd, and Nathan Boyd; one great-grandson, Henry C. Futhey, two sisters, Lenora Kocher, Stella (Clarence) Johnson, and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received at Bauknecht-Altmeyer funeral home at 3900 Central Ave., Shadyside, OH on Thursday, July 3, 2025 for visitation from 10:30 a.m. until time of service at 1 p.m. with Jon Hudnall, Chaplain – Amedisys officiating. Interment follows in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, Ohio.
