PATRICIA HENRY

On June 18, 2025, Patricia “Patty” Elaine (Ross) Henry’s soul took flight at the age of 87, but the love of her family will keep her alive in their hearts forever. She was born in 1938 and raised in Moundsville, West Virginia. Her father, J. Hubert Ross, a naval veteran from World War II, was a talented musician who played saxophone and clarinet in a local band and was a choir member and soloist in his church. Her hardworking mother, Beatrice (Bonuales) Ross, was a loving and devoted wife and mother but also worked outside the home, mostly in five & dime stores. Patty was the oldest of 3 siblings. Her sister, Barb, was born 2 years later and her brother, Charles, was born 2 years after Barb. Patty was the mother hen of her siblings and tried to keep them safe during their escapades playing in the Moundsville neighborhood where they lived.

Her family meant the world to her. She was a supportive housewife and mother to her 5 children. She was never judgmental and let her children be who they wanted to be.

She married young and was kept busy taking care of her family in Bridgeport, Ohio. She also engaged in activities outside the home. She enjoyed watching NASCAR having personally met Kyle Bush. She was an avid reader of suspense and mystery novels and watching game shows in which she outwitted most of the players. She became an EMT and worked as a volunteer in the Sunset Heights Fire Department where she was also very active with the women’s auxiliary. She worked for several years at WWVA Radio Station, where she worked closely with the jamboree headliners. She sold Tupperware and was a very successful businesswoman. Her sister Barb owned a day care in Canton, Ohio, and Patty worked there for many years as an assistant director and caring for newborns. Many of her co–workers and former children who were previously enrolled in day care under her watch still kept in contact with her.

Her last year was spent at Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Wheeling WV. The staff loved her gentle and kind spirit.

Her mother, father, and sister Barb preceded her in death. The rest of the family will cherish her memory: her husband Pat who was a machinist by trade and to whom she was married for over 70 years; and her 5 children and their families — Chris Henry (Lori) and his son James; Debbie Leonard and her daughters Elaine Hamarstrom (Jeff & children Sophia, Kenzie) and Caitlin; David Henry (Patty) and his children Luke (daughter Aubrey) and Abbi; Lisa Moore (Kip) and their children Brianna (children Sutton, Levi), Kyle (Kassie), and Patricia Lenz (children Maddox, Emmie); Barbara Britton (children Erica, Emily, Elisa), for a total of 11 grandchildren and 7 great–grandchildren. She will be missed by her sister Barb’s children — Rebecca Corsi (John & children); Elizabeth Ehler (Tony & children), and James; and her brother Charles (Alice) Ross and their 2 children — Jeff (Maria and son Charles–who was also one of Patty’s students at day care) and Scott (Anne & their children).

Patty donated her whole body for research and education purposes. There will be no funeral but rather a celebration of life to be scheduled at a later date.
