MYRA THOMPSON
Myra Jean Deal Thompson, 89, passed away Tuesday April 15, 2025, at Forest Hills Care Center, St. Clairsville, Ohio.
She was born March 10, 1936 in Wheeling, WV and spent her childhood on The Island.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, Jeffrey Koch Thompson (retired Physics and Chemistry teacher at St. Clairsville High School and Brilliant High School) and her sister, Sally Jane Deal. She is survived by her Nieces: Wendy Thompson (Michael) Crick and family of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee; Lori Thompson (Steve) Waters and family of New Braunfels, Texas; Nephew: Douglas Stuart Thompson of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee.
A dedicated educator and lifelong advocate for learning, Myra spent her professional life shaping young minds as a teacher at St. Clairsville High School and later served as librarian at Barnesville High School, where her love of books and commitment to student success left a lasting impact.
Myra and Jeff built a life centered on family, education, and community. They spent every summer traveling while they were teachers; upon retirement, they completed visits to all 50 states and enjoyed 21 years of trips to Glacier National Park in Montana.
She will be remembered for her warmth, wisdom and the quiet strength with which she supported those around her. Her life touched many, and her memory will continue to inspire those who knew her.
Services will be held at Holly Memorial Gardens in Colerain on Tuesday, 8 July 2025 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your local public library or a literacy program of your choice, in honor of Myra’s lifelong passion for reading and education.
