WILLIAM TIMKO

William Edward (Bill) Timko passed away in Fairfax, Virginia at the age of 73 on July 18, 2025.

He was a dedicated public servant who worked for the U.S. Forest Service for 38 years, after completing his Master of Forest Science at Yale University (1976) and a BS from West Virginia University (1974).

Bill was a devoted partner of Pamela, his beloved wife of 52 years. They spent the early years of their marriage living in Idaho, Oregon, and Montana. Bill served as a district ranger for the Gallatin National Forest from 1986-1991 in Big Timber, MT. For the second half of his career a move was made to Chantilly, VA and Bill worked at the Forest Service Headquarters in Washington, DC, retiring as the Deputy Director of Forest and Rangeland Management helping to ensure the best use of our nation’s resources.

As a retiree, he committed his time to advocating for U.S. National Forests and as President of the D.C. Forest Service Retirees Association. He is remembered by his colleagues for how many people he touched as a smart, gentle, caring leader who embodied all the best of the Forest Service Spirit.

Bill is survived by his wife Pamela (Ring); children, Andrew Timko and Sarah (Eric) Jodlbauer; grandchildren, Lily and Julius Jodlbauer; his sister, Jean (Jack) Kloss; and predeceased by his brother Charles (Dolores).

He was a dearly loved uncle to his nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews, all of whom he could make laugh at any age.

A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Joseph’s Church in Bridgeport, Ohio on Friday, August 1, 2025 at 11 a.m.
