GOLDIE ROGERS

Goldie Eileen Rogers, born March 6, 1935, in Bellaire, Ohio, passed away peacefully with her children at her side on November 26, 2025, at the age of 90, leaving behind a legacy that could rival any epic novel. Her final chapter was written in St. Clairsville, Ohio, where she departed with her usual flair.

Goldie graduated from Bellaire High School in 1952, where she was known for her prowess on the basketball court and her surprising skills on the football field with the United Mine Workers Girls Team. She went on to graduate from the Ohio Valley General School of Nursing in 1955, launching a career that would span decades and touch countless lives.

Her nursing journey began at several local hospitals, where she worked as a registered nurse before retiring for the first time in 1996 at the age of 62. Retirement didn’t suit her, so she returned part-time to surgery until her second retirement in October 2013 at the age of 79. Still not ready to call it quits, Goldie joined The Health Plan of the Ohio Valley, where she worked in the mailroom until she was 82. Her dedication to caring for others was matched only by her commitment to keeping busy.

Goldie was a woman of many interests. She volunteered for years at the St. John’s school cafeteria in Bellaire, ensuring that no child left without a smile or an extra helping. Not one to sit idle, she joined the Boy Scouts of America Troop 111 at the Methodist Church in Bellaire, attending the National Boy Scout Jamboree in Fort AP Hill, Virginia, to keep a watchful eye on her grandson while working a base clinic for the Central Region.

An avid golfer, Goldie swung her way through several golf leagues in the valley and cherished her weekly family golfing outings. One of her proudest moments was playing a round on “The Old Course” at St. Andrews in Scotland and crossing the Swilcan Bridge at the 18th Hole–a feat she recounted with glee to anyone who would listen.

Goldie was a devoted member of St. John Church in Bellaire, Ohio, where she found solace and community. Known affectionately as “Aunt Susie,” “Goldie Lynn,” “Nonnie” by her grands, “GiGi” by her greats and “Ma,” she found immense joy in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, spending time with them, babysitting and teaching them to golf, swim, and appreciate the finer points of life–like a well-timed joke.

Goldie was preceded in death by her husband Bill Rogers in 1986, her parents Oscar Wilbur Sykes and Goldie Sivila Sykes, granddaughter Amanda Rosepapa in 2010, sisters Sylvia Browning, Mildred Demkowicz, and Nancy Dunlap, brothers Forrest, Oscar, Clyde, Warren, Burdette, Harry, David, and an infant brother, as well as her daughter-in-law Linda Rogers and son-in-law Randy Homan.

She is survived by her loving children Anita (Charles) Day, William Rogers, Rose (Richard) Rosepapa, Michael (Anna) Rogers, and Susan Homan; grandchildren Charlie (Amber) Day, Katie (Steven) Kovaly, Jeni (Joey) Defede, Amy Rosepapa, Michael (Kasi) Rogers II, Corey Rogers, Joseph Burdyn, and Jeremiah Burdyne; and great-grandchildren Andrew Day, Laynee Bellville, Liza Cain, Madison Kovaly, Brooklyn Rogers, and Abigail Rogers.

Visitation will be held at Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Home, 441 37th Street, Bellaire, Ohio on Monday, December 1, 2025, from 10 a.m. until the time of service with Father Daniel Heusel at 1:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to either Valley Hospice or Senior Services of Belmont County, ensuring that Goldie’s legacy of care continues to touch lives.

Goldie Eileen Rogers lived a life full of love, laughter, and a little bit of mischief. She will be dearly missed but fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
