JOHN SLAVIK

John W. “Zeke” Slavik, 91, died on December 11, 2025, at Liza’s Place, in Wheeling, WV. He was born June 25, 1934, in Blaine, Ohio, to Suzanna Hutira Slavik and Emil Slavik, Sr.

John was a 1952 graduate of St. John Central High School. He served in the U. S. Army from 1957 to 1959 at a Nike Missile Base in Romulus, Michigan. He worked as a machinist at Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, Yorkville Plant, retiring after 42 years. John played sandlot baseball for many years and was an outstanding pitcher, earning many accolades. He coached little league baseball in St. Clairsville, sharing his passion for the game and his pitching expertise. John was a founding member of the St. C. RC Flyers, a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, in St. Clairsville, and former member of the Knights of Columbus.

John was a skilled woodworker, making beautiful items for each member of his family. He spent his days gardening, berry picking, flying model airplanes, “tinkering” with his metal lathe and woodshop in the basement, watching sports, and working out at the Howard Long Wellness Center, where he greeted everyone with a smile. PapPap especially loved keeping up with the lives of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. John will always be remembered for his famous one-liners, his sweet disposition, and his dedication to his Catholic faith.

Besides his parents, John was preceded in death by a sister Mary, and brothers, Edward and Emil, Jr.

He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Charlotte Vincenzo Slavik; his children: John Slavik, Jr., Theresa (Geoff) Feisley, Joe (Diane) Slavik, and Michelle (Kurt) Gabram; 10 grandchildren: Jake (Grace) Slavik, Julianne Slavik, Jacob Feisley, William (Emily) Feisley, Daniel (Megan) Slavik, Claire Slavik, Luke Slavik, Savannah (Nolan) Farrell, Olivia Gabram (Thomas Snavely), and Isabelle Gabram; 5 great-grandchildren: Levi & Lydia Slavik and Annie, Sophie & James Slavik; sister-in-law DJ Slavik and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received on Sunday, December 14, from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Toothman Funeral Home, St. Clairsville, with Military Honors conducted by the Belmont County Veterans Association at 7 p.m.

Visitation will again be held on Monday, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Clairsville, from 9:30 a.m. until time of Funeral Liturgy with Mass at 10:30 a.m., with Fr. Thomas Chillog as celebrant. A private burial will take place at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Church or St. Mary’s Central School, St. Clairsville, Ohio.
